Victory in the World Championship opener for Volkswagen Team Sweden

It was Sweden, Volkswagen Team Sweden and Johan Kristoffersson on top of the Podium when the opening round of the World Rallycross Championship was settled in Portugal. The 26-year old from the city of Arvika in Sweden took his maiden victory by beating reigning champion Petter Solberg in a thrilling event in Montegrale, Portugal.

- “What a final! A marvellous victory, the best so far, shouted a delighted Kristoffersson right after the finish”.

Johan Kristoffersson has been winning STCC, Superstars and Porsche Carrera Cup as a Racing driver. Now he can ad a World championship event victory to his records!

- This is of course great, even if it could not be compared to win the championship. The biggest victory in my carrier, says the young Swede.

Kristoffersson started in the first row besides Petter Solberg. The Volkswagen driver got a great start, but decided not to follow Solberg in the first corner but went for the jokerlap instead. Despite the Jokerlap, Kristoffersson soon catched up with Solberg and Timmy Hansen.

When Solberg and Hansen had to take the Joker lap, Kristoffersson could easily take the lead to win the opening round of the FIA World Championship.

- “To get a good start in the Championship means a lot to the team. We came well prepared and had high expectation before the event and we had the feeling that we could fight for the podium”, says team manager Tommy Kristoffersson and continues.

- “A Victory feels great, not only for us, but for everyone that has backed this project up. The success gives us the possibility to continue our plan for the following events. Tonight we are celebrating, but tomorrow we are focusing on next event in Hockenheim the coming weekend”, says Tommy Kristoffersson.
